EuroVolNet 2nd Seminar 23 – 25 September, Riga

The second seminar of the ISCA coordinated EuroVolNet project constitutes an important component of the project which serves the overall aim of debating volunteering challenges in Europe.

At the second seminar the main topic to be discussed is Non-formal education and lifelong learning through sport. The sport sector, primarily based on volunteer engagement and contribution, is the most widespread civil society movement where learning processes take place both on and off the pitch and sport halls.

Millions of Europeans join non-formal training and education in sport organizations, be it as trainers or leaders. This is non-formal learning on a massive scale and important to keep in mind when considering that non-formal education and lifelong learning are important elements of the EU2020 strategy towards smart, sustainable and inclusive growth.

The EuroVolNet Seminar in Riga will give time and space for further discussion between EuroVolNet Partners and other relevant institutions and organizations to improve coordination in volunteering across Europe.

The Seminar will be an opportunity to discuss challenges in education for volunteers and to discuss recommendations for the European Commission and other relevant policy makers within 4 main topics:

  • Recognition of volunteers’ skills and competences within the context of non formal and informal education and training systems
  • Recognition of non formal and informal education and training systems
  • Promotion of »education culture« within sport and promotion of sport organizations as »learning communities«
  • National education policies/national lifelong learning strategies across Europe

Project Partners will join the seminar in Latvia, but other organizations interested in the event and the EuroVolNet project are welcome to contact Project Manager Saska Tomat at [email protected]
