The countdown to MOVE Week 2025 has begun! This popular initiative invites people of all ages and abilities to take part in a wide range of sports and activities - often completely free of charge.

For many, MOVE Week is a chance to try something new, and perhaps discover a lifelong passion. For others, it’s an opportunity to introduce newcomers to their favourite activities and forge new bonds in their local communities.

Held annually in the final week of May (September in Latin America), MOVE Week aims to promote the benefits of an active lifestyle and encourage people to explore new forms of physical activity. Last year, MOVE Week attracted a total of 188,551 participants in 29 nations.

Now in its 14th edition, this year’s activities will take place from May 26 to June 1. To date over 200 events across eleven countries have been confirmed - and the list is growing. It’s not too late to add your event to the programme, and it’s definitely not too late to participate!

MOVE Week has always placed strong emphasis on the physical benefits of being active. However, the vital link between regular physical activity and mental wellbeing is less widely recognised. This year, special attention will be given to recent initiatives like the ABCs of Mental Health and Mental Health Vitamins, which offer practical strategies for being active, staying connected to others, and engaging in meaningful activities.

Seven days of movement

MOVE Week consists of seven days of movement, during which participating sports clubs and associations open their doors to everyone to offer ‘taster sessions’. This freedom to choose helps individuals discover the type of movement that suits them best. The activities are made possible thanks to the long-term efforts of National Coordinators in each participating nation, while MOVE Agents focus on specific activities and events.

Last year, for example, the Pentathlon Federation of the Republic of Moldova organised a fencing and laser pistol shooting competition attended by over 100 people. Participation was free for all, the winners were awarded gifts.

Supported and co-ordinated by ISCA, MOVE Week forms an integral part of the NowWeMOVE campaign, which brings together grassroots organisations and a variety of other sectors to address the epidemic of physical inactivity. Its ultimate goal is simple: to get as many people moving as possible.
