ABOUT Youth Sport Trust International
"Youth Sport Trust International is a sport for development charity which uses the inspirational power of physical activity, Physical Education and sport to improve the life chances of young people around the world. We are the international arm of the Youth Sport Trust, the UK’s leading charity improving every young person’s education and development through play and sport.
Youth Sport Trust International has inspired young people in over 70 countries across all five continents. We have an outstanding track record of delivery and a reputation for effective partnerships, having established relationships with the British Council, UK Sport, UNICEF and United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace, as well as European partners and Governments.
Youth Sport Trust International's principles of working with partners are:
- Partnership working - establishing long term relationships built on understanding, respect and trust
- Bespoke service - facilitating cutting edge in-country solutions that build on global best practice
- Sustainability - using an established 'train the trainer' approach to build capacity and future proof the network.
A key feature of the work of Youth Sport Trust International is to support and upskill educators with bespoke training. Our interventions focus on the use of physical activity and sport to develop a range of valuable life skills in young people such as teamwork, communication, resilience, tolerance and understanding. Having worked in many countries across the world, we have strong experience of the need to be mindful and show respect for different cultures."
The Vision of Youth Sport Trust International
"Physical and social inactivity are harming young people’s wellbeing, limiting their education and reducing their opportunities.
By harnessing the power of physical activity, Physical Education and sport, the team at Youth Sport Trust International strives to contribute to a number of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:
- Developing good health
- Providing quality education
- Promoting gender equality
- Reducing inequalities
- Growing employability and entrepreneurial skills
- Uniting communities."
The Mission of Youth Sport Trust International
"The main purpose of Youth Sport Trust International is to improve and transform young people’s lives to enhance their life chances and support them to become the best they can be. Our interventions use physical activity, Physical Education and sport as effective tools to engage and motivate young people.
Our objectives and goals are:
- To grow the skills and expertise of education practitioners
- To build leadership skills in young people that last a lifetime and improve their employability
- To give young people with special educational needs and disabilities the same opportunities as their peers
- To support disenfranchised, marginalised and vulnerable young people the confidence to take responsibility for their own lives
- To develop and strengthen connections in and between different communities.
In order to achieve our goals we work closely with a range of international, national and local partners in the countries where we are delivering training.
Children and young people (usually people under 29 years of age) are our overall target audience but we reach them mainly by upskilling their teachers and other practitioners. The benefits of capacity building in country are that the workforce is enhanced and there are improved chances of sustainability.
We always seek to make our work inclusive, engaging and accessible. Our values of trust, responsibility, integrity and partnership working underpin everything we do.
