ABOUT USEP

"The Sports Union for Primary Education (Usep) organizes sports activities for public school children, from nursery to elementary school , in support of physical and sports education (EPS) provided by the school teachers. Co-hosted by teachers and parents , it brings together 604,102 child licensees and 33,676 volunteer adult leaders within 6,953 associations (2021-2022 figures), making it the 4th sports federation in France.

The Usep is the federation of school sports in public schools, the UNSS (National Union of School Sports) taking over in middle and high schools."

The Vision of USEP

"Usep's action is part of the broader action of the Education League , of which it constitutes the school sports component. Inspired by the humanist and secular ideal of this great popular education movement, its educational project can be summed up in one formula: “train sporting citizens”.

At Usep, the acquisition of motor skills and the construction of health capital goes hand in hand with learning the rules and respect for others. In addition, during sports and association meetings, children are invited to take responsibility and exercise different social roles: organizer, referee, reporter, etc. This awakening to associative life also involves participation in the functioning of the school association itself, alongside adults."

The Mission of USEP

"Usep's activities mainly consist of the organization of sporting and association meetings . These are offered both during school time, outside school time (Wednesday and sometimes Saturday) and after-school time (during the lunch break or after class).

Usep has developed a specific pedagogy to make physical and sporting activities accessible to all children. Mixing boys and girls is the rule, as is the inclusion of children with disabilities , the principle being that practices must be adapted to the abilities of each person.

An educational movement, Usep makes the tools designed for its sports-associative meetings available to all teachers and contributes to their training, in conjunction with National Education."
