ABOUT UMFI
"Jóhannes Jósefsson from Akureyri, together with five other young men, set out one summer day in Þingvellir and founded a comprehensive organization of youth clubs in Iceland. The organization received the name Ungmennafélag Íslands, and every street has since been a symbol of the youth association movement.
Ungmennafélag Íslands is the national association of youth associations. UMFÍ is a service and coordinating agent for federal partners and their member organizations. UMFÍ emphasizes professional working methods, positive communication and cooperation with united forces as a guiding principle. Joy, trust and cooperation are the values of UMFÍ. The values are reflected in the youth community spirit, which involves improving oneself and society at the same time."
The Vision of UMFI
UMFÍ's approach is twofold. On the one hand, UMFÍ supports confederates and their member associations and provides advice. However, UMFÍ organizes its own events and projects where emphasis is placed on the physical, mental and social development of members in accordance with the union's policy. UMFÍ emphasizes that everyone can participate in sports and exercise and be part of a strong team, for the benefit of society.
