ABOUT Polisportive giovanili salesiane
"The P.G.S. were founded in 1967, promoted by the Salesian organisations CNOS-Salesians for vocational training and CIOFS-Italian Salesian Women Centre, to coordinate and formalise the great amount of sports activity that has always been promoted within Salesian Institutes and Oratories. In 1979, CONI- the Italian Olympic Committee recognised P.G.S. as a National Sports Promotion Body, and at that time the P.G.S. project could also be proposed outside the Salesian world. In 1981 P.G.S. was recognised as a National Welfare Organisation by the Decrees of the Ministry of the Interior no. 10.6255/12000.A (78) of 22 February and no. 10.14116/12000.A (78) of 17 October, pursuant to Article 2, paragraph IV of Law no. 524/1974 and Article 20 of Presidential Decree no. 640/1972. In the year 2000 they were entered in the National Register of Associations for Social Promotion pursuant to and for the purposes of law no. 383 of 7 December under no. 62.
P.G.S. Italy can finally boast of having given the impetus for the creation of its own International Structure, PGS International. In 1990, the first edition of the International Salesian Youth Games took place in Malta, initiated by PGS Italy. Now, after a pandemic-related pause, the event is set to return in 2024, hosted by Genoa, Italy. From May 25 to 29, 1,800 young people from 14 European nations will gather to celebrate in the spirit of Don Bosco. This gathering aims to promote peace and fraternity among the participants."
